Staff Manipulation

This is a DVD to take you from a total beginner to an intermediate to advanced spinner. It has everything you need to learn and master staff spinning, contact, doubles, throws... staff manipulation. Everything but a staff that is. It also has inspiration sections from some of the best staff spinners in the world, from Austria, France, Australia and maybe one from Scotland too...

The DVD also contains sections on learning techniques, style, motivation, concepts behind spinning, a guide to terminology and a discussion of what staff to use.

The DVD is available in region free PAL format, with a running time of approximately 150 minutes. It features 110 minutes of narrated tutorials in English and 40 minutes of inspiring footage from some of the leading spinners in the world.

Inspiration:

The inspiration section contains footage from:

Marc's Liszt and David Nolan from FenFire
Marcus is renowned for his mastery of thumbs while doing contact staff and recently he has been learning fei cha. He's an intense quiet fellow, with a creative streak for doubles also. David Nolan is a bit good at Juggling staffs and fishtails, just like Bastl. I wonder how that could have happened?

Meghan Pike - "MCP"
What can I say about myself? Well, not much without sounding immodest, but er, I made all the tutorials and I've also got a freestyle section... You can watch me spin in it. Yay.

Stephane Cosculluela
Stef is one of the best staffers you've never heard of. He's from a french troupe called fire fantasy, and not only is he a amazing poi spinner and a teacher of Kung Fu, but he also does beautifully smooth contact staff. In performance he mixes his own style in with that of drunken master style.

Uberparis
Some of the Highlights from the UberParis Convention, a series of spinning masterclasses organised by Rob Thorburn. See UberEvents.org for more details. There is also time for free spinning at the event, and we've captured some of the atmosphere and talented people who attended. There's also a segment of the fire spinning that went on afterwards.

Tutorials:

Teaching everything you need to know about plainly spinning a staff, as well as a beginners guide to many areas of double staff spinning, contact and throws. And it also contains a lot of tutorials on contact staff, where you don't use your hands and keep the staff in contact with your body. See below for exact details of what's on the DVD.

Each section covers the movement of it's title, teaching that movement in depth and also covering some of the basic variations. Each section contains specific information on how to get the movement clean, it shows it from multiple angles, using close ups and freeze frames to highlight the finer points of the movement.
